MarketingPilot consist of three components - the alert service, database and web server – which may reside on the same server or on separate servers.
Licensing A valid license key is required to install MarketingPilot. License Keys are sent via email to the registered Administrator who was designated at the time of purchase. If you need a license key resent to you, contact Support.
Security/Permissions Windows Power User or Administrator privileges are required to enable you to install software on your desktop computer and server.
Software Prerequisites
MarketingPilot requires SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008.
MarketingPilot is incompatible with Microsoft Sharepoint. MarketingPilot cannot be run on an IIS Server where Sharepoint is installed.
Microsoft Internet Information Service (R6 or higher). We strongly recommend that you obtain and configure a 128-bit SSL encryption key if you allow users to access MarketingPilot from outside your firewall. 128-bit keys are widely available from a variety of vendors (type “SSL encryption” in any search engine). Keys may take several hours or days to obtain.
Microsoft ASP.Net 3.5.
Multi-file upload requires the installation of the Microsoft Silverlight 2.0 or higher browser plug-in that is available for Windows and Macintosh on each users' computer.
Word 2007, Excel 2007 and Powerpoint 2007 file thumbnailing: Microsoft Office 2007 with the Microsoft Save as PDF add-in must be installed on the IIS Server where MarketingPilot is installed.
Web Server Hardware
Minimum hardware requirements consist of one Windows computer (Server 2000, 2003 or 2008) with at least 8 GB of RAM and a 2GHz dual-core processor. Faster processor(s) and additional RAM may be necessary to improve performance. If the IIS Web Server and SQL Server are on a single server the minimum required RAM is 12 GB.
We strongly recommend the provision of a back up device to protect data.
Capacity Planning
It is very difficult to estimate how large a database will be. Every organization is different and works with different kinds and sizes of documents and digital assets. We recommend allocating disk space as calculated below on the database server:
The MarketingPilot Web Server requires approximately 250MB of available disk space upon completion of the installation.
On the database server allocate at least 1GB per regular user. For graphic designers allocate 10 GB per user.
Set the Database and Log Files to grow using default SQL Server settings, or settings you prefer.
There should be approximately the same amount of free disk space as calculated above.
MarketingPilot's Alert Service requires approximately 100MB of available memory and 100 MB of available disk storage.
Advanced Functions Additional Requirements
Custom Reports: SQL Server Reporting Services is required to support custom report development and deployment. A SQL Server authenticated login is required to attach the MarketingPilot database. Users who will be designing custom reports require the Microsoft Business Intelligence Development Studio. The Business Intelligence Development Studio requires Windows XP or Vista. The Microsoft Business Intelligence Development Studio is a standard component included at no cost in all editions of Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Reports developed using the Business Intelligence Development Studio can be viewed by both Windows and Macintosh users.
Video Thumbnailing: A DirectX video adapter is required for video file thumbnailing. If a DirectX video adapter is not provided, video files can be stored in MarketingPilot but thumbnails will not be available.
Web Client/End User System Requirements
Users require a computer with an internet browser such as Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Firefox or Safari. MarketingPilot requires no plug-ins or dlls and doesn't require a JVM (Java Virtual Machine).
Notes
The current releases of Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari are not 100% compatible with each other. MarketingPilot is tested for compatibility using the current versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari; MarketingPilot also supports the prior version of Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari.
Some features of MarketingPilot's word processor are unavailable when using Safari. Editing in place is not available using Firefox. Internet Explorer is recommended if you want to use all the available report functionality. Although you can use other browsers to view a report, Internet Explorer for Windows is the only browser that is guaranteed to support the complete set of features for working with reports.
Web Folders (Optional)
Web folders enable users to browse Files in MarketingPilot using Windows and Mac via WebDav protocols.
Windows
Install Microsoft's Software Update for Web Folders if you plan using Web Folders on XP and Vista.
Note that the Microsoft Web Folders Client is not installed by default on Windows 2003 server.
Windows Vista requires HTTPS/SSL to support Web Folders.
Note that while users can use the Mac OS Finder to browse MarketingPilot files, performance can be slow (this is a known issue that the Goliath community is trying to address), we recommend using Goliaths file explorer.
Editing in Place (Optional) Editing in Place enables Windows Internet Explorer users to edit files stored in MarketingPilot without uploading them and downloading them. Microsoft Office requires additional configuration to allow Editing in Place. By default Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are opened with read-only permissions which prevents users from making changes to them. To resolve this issue Microsoft has provided a update that can be found online at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/870853. Or you can download and run the Microsoft Office Configuration Setup program from the MarketingPilot Support Web Site. Run the Microsoft Office Configuration Setup program on every computer where you want users to be able to edit Microsoft Office Documents in Place.
Notes
If you are using Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 you do not need to run the Microsoft Office Configuration Setup program. Other file types (Acrobat, GIF, JPEG, ect.) do not require you to run the Microsoft Office Configuration Setup program.
